We’re all different writers on different journeys with different strengths. Comparison is rough because it discounts your individual strengths. Personally, I wish I could write the journalistic pieces I see in The Atlantic or New Yorker but I just don’t have it in me so I appreciate what I can do and work on that. And who’s to say that your writing—just as it is—doesn’t impact or inspire someone in a deeply profound way? I’d focus on your own talents and craft and reading and practicing. This is a marathon, a life practice, there is no finish line. I’ve been writing for over 40 years.
