I think this behavior is endemic to our cult of more society. Doctors come out of medical school with debt and pick the most lucrative form of medicine (plastics, for example) to pay off their debt and earn a nice living instead of focusing on being the best doctor. Same with writing and other disciplines that require technical skill and passion. I think it’s less about the shitty advice on medium, and more about the underlying socio-economic culture that doesn’t give us a decent financial infrastructure while at the same time pushing everyone to want more, more, more. This is all to say it’s complicated :)
