Seriously, Medium?
Now, there’s graphic porn on the site?
Every single day I’m followed by dozens of bots. I’m convinced half of my followers are spam. These aren’t people who want to engage with writing or connect with people — they want to sell, scam, etc. Fake accounts that hock crypto, drugs from developing nations, and apparently, now, porn.
While reading explicit erotica isn’t my bag, I don’t knock it because there’s an art to writing something that is more than a money shot. You have to draw people in, keep them compelled by a story because you don’t have to ease of visuals. Great erotica creates connection between people, makes people feel less alone, and although it’s not for me, I have no problem with it having a home on Medium.
Fuck away, friends. Tell your stories. But don’t trot out explicit visuals.
What I do have a problem with is explicit porn on a site where I share expert marketing tutorials and business advice, narrative non-fiction and short stories. I’m embarrassed because clients — c-suite executives, founders — follow me here and occasionally browse the platform. I’m even nervous sharing this post on LinkedIn because I don’t want to repel my clients and colleagues or have them think I’m associated with a porn-peddling platform.
