Over the past year, Medium has increasingly felt like a stranger. I don’t write about the platform (maybe 4–5 articles in the 9 years I’ve been on the platform) because it’s tedious and doesn’t interest my readers. I don’t judge the hustle, it’s just not my vibe.

But back to wading through the tsunami of shite.

I have over sixty thousand followers and I’m convinced half of them are spam. While I don’t look at my stats (again, not my vibe), I sometimes see the folks who follow me, which amounts to hundreds of bots peddling porn, television show downloads, and meth — a piling heap of garbage pushing their wares from one landfill to another. Not actual humans who want to read and engage with my work.

Then, there are the commenters, which have bordered on ridiculous. Few truly want to connect and engage. Instead, they prefer to:

  1. Prove they’re superior
  2. Insult and belittle you
  3. Promote their own work
  4. Use the comments section as a means to talk about…
