I'm optimistic, but realistic. Do I think the people who voted for Trump will come around in four years--probably not. I'm not going to insult you by explaining what you already know and live, but I remember back in 2016 when I thought it was impossible for Trump to win and every single person of color I knew laughed and told me he would absolutely win.

I think there's two sets of people in the Trump camp--those who are actually well-intentioned, decent people who need to be educated and the violently ignorant who march around with confederate flags (ironically, the loser, which is antithetical to trump's belief system if he indeed has one). I think we can make some headway with the former (I think of people like former Tea Party member, former congressman, and ex-trump supporter Joe Walsh who really came around) but the latter--tbh, not so much.

The more I unpack the education I was taught about our history to understand the real history of America, I feel less hopeful since many White people want to maintain their supremacy at all costs.

This is all to say I loved your essay and it sparked hope before a long day of work ahead of me :)

Warmest, f.
