I think most folks have very altruistic intentions — they want to help people — but I often find (IMHO) the help is misguided. People are teaching others to write for a platform as opposed to starting with learning to be a better writer. The platform should ALWAYS be secondary.

It’s sort of like when I pitch to various magazines or sites I know that I have to tailor my work to meet the editors’ needs and specs, but I prioritize being the best writer I can be.
