Hi, Jenny — I think it applies to anything you offer people, whether that be a service or a physical product. People will favor WOM over advertising or anything “pushed” by a brand. Peer opinions always trump what a brand has to say, no matter how trusted.

I haven’t written about it specifically as it relates to me being a novelist or a marketer, but I feel it applies to both.
